Course Description • This course covers the study of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Cinema, and Literature. The arts is a foundation of humanities and includes studio arts, music, and literature. •The term Humanities comes from the Latin word, “humanitas” •It generally refers to art, literature, music, architecture, dance and the theatre—in which human subjectivity is emphasized and individual expressiveness is dramatized. Humanities-related courses are part of most undergraduate degree program curricula, and students may also choose to major in this field. The Humanities & Fine Arts courses seek to help students understand, analyze, and explore the human condition. The humanities encourage us to think creatively. A bachelor of arts in humanities degree program exists to introduce students to a broad perspective on human behavior, thought and values through selected topics across the arts and humanities. Humanities 101 Art Appreciation 1. Think back to geometry class for a moment: all squares are technically rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.
